Power Phrases: Speak with More Confidence

Say It Like You Mean It.

The thoughts of what people will say, or how you will sound can lead you into a downward spiral of imposter syndrome which significantly impacts how you are received as a leader. So, the question we hear we often is, “How do I speak with more confidence?”

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. Your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do. You’re in the position you are in because you’re qualified. Think of the leaders that you admire, what qualities in communication do you respect? For most of the women, we work with.

They admire:

  • Honesty

  • Clarity, and

  • Down-to-earth communication skills

So here’s the takeaway:

Be clear, be confident, and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your communication style is that it’s going to continue to evolve as your leadership evolves. Your goal should be to communicate and deliver messages that resonate with who you are, as a leader now.

We suggest building your personal library of power phrases to help you communicate with confidence and clarity, here’s an example. In the Resilient Leaders Program review the power phrases module for templates on power phrases for various scenarios.
